Getting on a boat with thousands of people in the middle of the ocean never appealed to me. But, a colleague I trusted who has traveled the world told me about small yacht cruise lines that specialize in taking a few hundred people to more remote locations. That got me intrigued.
Windstar Cruises is one of those cruise lines that also has a partnership with the James Beard Foundation. I flew to Tahiti and boarded one of their ships to sail French Polynesia.
