Halt the Hot Dogs…Sausages Are Taking Over Summer Grilling Time

Who needs traditional hot dogs when there are so many flavorful sausages to throw on the grill?! Pick your favorite sausages – chorizo, chicken apple, even plant-based – and throw them on the grill while you make this slightly spicy, chunky, cherry tomato chutney with NatureSweet® Glorys® right alongside.

Garnish with crunchy Fresh Gourmet® Wonton Strips or Garlic Pepper Crispy Onions and more freshly chopped Glorys®…and fried jalapeño slices, too (see Change Ups below).

It’ll be the best barbecue of the summer!

Chadwick’s Checklist

What you need to know before you cook.

  • Bring the sausages to room temperature before grilling, about 30 minutes
  • The sauce can be made ahead of time on the stove top - follow the same cooking instructions

SERVING SIZE: 4-8 PREP TIME: 10-15 minutes COOKING TIME: 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 red onion, quartered

  • 3 fresh Thai red chile peppers, stems removed

  • 6 cloves garlic, lightly smashed

  • 2½ cups NatureSweet® Glorys®, roughly chopped

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce or light soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon canola oil

  • 8 sausages (chicken apple, chorizo, plant-based)

  • 8 soft, split top hot dog rolls

  • 1 cup Fresh Gourmet® Wonton Strips or Garlic Pepper Crispy Onions

  • ¼ cup cilantro or parsley leaves

Directions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high, 425°F-450°F.

  2. Place the onion, peppers, garlic, 2 cups of Glorys®, salt, fish sauce and oil in a large cast iron skillet. Place on the grill and cook 20-25 minutes, or until softened and charred. Stir occasionally with a wooden spoon. Remove from the heat and allow to cool for 15 minutes.

  3. Transfer to a food processor and pulse, 45 seconds-1 minute or until the ingredients are broken down, but still slightly chunky. Place in a bowl and stir in the remaining ½ cup of Glorys®. Set aside.

  4. Place the sausages on the grill and cook 6-8 minutes, turning once with tongs for even cooking. Grill the rolls, split side down, until lightly toasted, 2-3 minutes.

  5. Transfer the rolls to a large platter. Place the sausages in the rolls. Spoon 2-3 tablespoons of the chutney on top of each. Sprinkle the Fresh Gourmet® Wonton Strips or Garlic Pepper Crispy Onions on top. Garnish with the cilantro leaves.

  6. Serve immediately.

Chadwick’s Changeups

Switch things up. Have some fun! Do more.

  • Instead of rolls, place the sasages in fresh Romaine lettuce leaves
  • Toss some jalapeño slices in cornstarch and fry until golden for another fun topping
